November/December 2010, as we all know, brought severe weather preventing Bunker Thirteen from visiting various places and getting to the headquarters, also everyone was winding down for the Christmas period so contact was limited. Bunker Thirteen was expecting this and did not plan anything. The usual research continued in the background and support for the project was more or less all we could do and some success was achieved.
Bunker Thirteen had planned to find other interested people who would be willing to form a Sub-committee of Bunker Thirteen and carry on tasks when we could not be available. There was some success, with several people coming forward. We will be speaking to those people, early next year.
To date, Bunker Thirteen has three events in their diary, one of which is to be confirmed. As the new year progresses, Bunker Thirteen will be available for other events such as talks, presentations and fact finding visits. Some of the members of Bunker Thirteen may actually be dressed in 1940’s clothing, mainly RAF Uniform.
Hopefully, 2011 will bring a better year for the former 13 Group Fighter Command Headquarters and Bunker Thirteen. We will be continuing to work with the Central Grange Residents who are all important to the Bunker Project and concentrate on the volunteers who came forward to form a sub-committee of Bunker Thirteen.
January will see Bunker Thirteen organising a meeting with the Central Grange residents and seeing them establish their residents committee.
Bunker Thirteen will also continue to be a close associate of Blyth Battery Volunteers and local groups centred on the battery.
A new event, in the early Spring/Summer sounds promising and very interesting. Clive Elsdon from the Weardale Railway has invited Bunker Thirteen down to their War on the Line event. The dates have to be confirmed.
